Dear Neighbors,
As events related to the murder of George Floyd continue to unfold, I want you to know that I am here listening, representing, and working for you.
I have worked for real solutions to eliminate the disparities in policing. I took action on this issue by voting for placing a measure on the November 2020 ballot to create an independent, community-based Commission on Police Practices.
Today, I was pleased to learn that Chief Nisleit has announced that the Police Department will no longer use the carotid restraint. This is an important policy change that has been a high priority for community advocates.
As we continue on this journey of reform, I want to remind everyone to stay safe, and commit to you that we are here working to protect your safety and the safety of all residents of our city.
