This is why Todd Gloria and Scott Sherman are two sides of the same coin. Neither one of them distinguishes between a technology fad and a sustainable business model. Scooter companies have been able to shift liability onto taxpayers (especially when politicians exempt them from helmet requirements) and have spent millions of dollars to persuade the public that they will save the environment, which is pure fiction.
As a Harvard MBA and a successful tech entrepreneur, I’m the last person who wants the government to stand in the way of new technologies. What I will do, however, is recognize the difference between a new technology that is backed by speculative investors and one that is backed by a sustainable business model.
